Registered Charity SCO42510

About The Foundation

The Arran Brown Rainbow Foundation is a registered Scottish Charity (SCO42510) set up in 2011 in memory of Arran Brown who was born with a rare kidney condition, Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD).

The foundation aims to support various charities, organisations and groups that helped to support Arran and his family during his life. These include the Yorkhill Childrens Foundation (YCF), charities that are dedicated to supportive patients with polycystic kidney disease such as the PKD Foundation and the Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity UK and the Childrens Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

The Arran Brown Rainbow Foundation has been established to support health care and research with two main aims:

  • To increase awareness of ARPKD and support research into this disease
  • To support charities, hospitals and other groups that support both patients and families of those with ARPKD

Health Care: The Foundation will support the advancement of health care, with particular, but not necessarily exclusive focus, on Renal health care. Funds may be allocated to the following areas following agreement from the trustees.

  • Yorkhill Childrens Foundation (Renal Ward)
  • Yorkhill Childrens Foundation (PICU Ward)
  • Yorkhill Childrens Foundation (General Ward)
  • Childrens Hospice Association Scotland

Health Research: The Foundation will support the advancement of health research, with particular focus on research into the Renal condition of Polycystic Kidney Disease. Funds may be allocation to the following areas following agreeement from trustees.

  • Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity UK
  • PKD Foundation

ARPKD and Organ Donation: Additionally, where it may be possible, the charity shall look to fund or help to fund research into ARPKD, as well as promoting awareness of this rare condition. It will also support the promotion of organ donation.

To date, funds raised by the Foundation have been allocated to the Yorkhill Childrens Foundation which provides enhanced medical equipment and resources which benefit sick children and babies who are treated at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow. The hospital took great care of Arran throughout his life when he was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit and the Renal Ward. Funds have also been allocated to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity UK which is dedicated to the concerns of people affected by PKD. We are delighted that both of these charities have given the Arran Brown Rainbow Foundation their blessing to raise funds on their behalf.
